   Thompson Training Center in Millarville, Alberta started up in 1988, as a small scale training business.

   Before that I had a very successful show horse business based at my dad's ranch west of Claresholm. I specialized in all around horses and showed throughout Canada and the U.S in all events from halter, western, & english pleasure, game events such as barrel racing & pole bending and cattle events including cutting, working cow horse, & cattle penning. I won the Appaloosa World Championship in working cow horse in 1980 in Oklaholma City.

   In 1988 I met Lindy Barron who asked if I would like to team pen with her and away we went! Lindy and I started the first ever regular penning practices at Black Diamond Land and Cattle in 1989 and we have been going every Wednesday since. We also started the first penning clinics and have introduced alot of people to the sport of team penning.

   I along with my family (husband Bryan, daughter Amy, and son Chris) have won numerous awards in team penning from local to national levels. Now my son-in-law Steve is also a great competitor!

   I also have a few clients who like to compete in the cutting and working cow horse events.

   I am very proud of the horses that we ride as they allow us to compete at our best. I have trained them for team penning, but they are also great all around ranch horses. Zip is 27 years old this year, I started penning on him in 1988. Bryan, Amy, Chris & Steve all started on him and now we have a young fellow who works on the ranch, who is also learning to pen on him. He is also a great ride for our grandaughters Ashley (4) and Kaitlynn (2).
